Yankees Minor League Report 8/6/19: Luis Medina Continues Hot Stretch; Josh Smith: 1st HR

2B Ezequiel Duran was named the NYPL Player of the Month for July by milb.com.

SS Alexander Vargas broke out of a slump with a 2-for-3 afternoon.  He also stole his 9th base.   Vargas had a rough July (12-for-73). so we shall hope for a strong finish…C Antonio Gomez went 0-for-3 with a strikeout…CF Kevin Alcantara didn't earn any hits (0-for-2), but he did draw a walk…1B Starlin Paulino (19) singled and scored a run.  He is hitting .314/.419/.490 in 51 AB…RHP Deivi Diaz pitched what must be a rare GCL complete game.  Of course, the game ended early due to rain:  6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K.   He didn't allow an earned run in five innings in his last start…

CF Raimfer Salinas is having a solid season thus far.  He extended his hitting streak to nine today by going 1-for-4 with a run scored.  He is hitting .289/.347/.465 in 114 AB…2B Sincere Smith went 1-for-4 and is 14-for-44 on the season…RHP Denny Larrondo tossed four hitless innings, though he did give up a run.  He walked two and struck out two…

Scranton Railriders (64-50) (Lost to Charlotte, 5-3, in ten innings)

LF Clint Frazier:  1-for-5, HR (7), RBI, RS, K
His home run was a Dave Winfield type shot – a line drive right into the stands.  Off the bat, you would wonder how the ball even got out.

With Mike Ford fooling around in MLB, it allows Amburgey a chance to close that gap in the home run race!

2.04 ERA in 114.2 IP with 99 hits allowed and a 110/27 K/BB ratio.   He missed all of 2017 and pitched well in Charleston last year (3.90 ERA in 14 starts, covering 64.2 innings).  Nobody could have predicted this kind of season in 2019.  He is relying on ground balls, pitchability, and enough strikeouts to keep you intrigued.
