Yankees Minor League Report 8/12/19: Jhony Brito with Dominant Performance

SS Alexander Vargas went 2-for-5 with his fourth triple and a run batted in.   He is at .230/.321/.379 in 161 AB between the GCL and DSL this season…CF Kevin Alcantara swatted out three singles and scored three times.   He has four 3+ hit games in 33 games this season between the GCL and DSL…C Antonio Gomez contributed two singles of his own, driving home one while scoring once…2018 draftee Mick Vorhof (9th round) made his professional debut, tossing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.   I am not sure why he missed so much time (he essentially was placed on the 60-day injured list right after signing last year).  I can't find anything that suggests he underwent Tommy John surgery.  Who knows?  Vorhof was drafted out of Grand Canyon University, where he put up some rather impressive K/BB ratios, especially in his senior season.   He is 23 years old, so he will have to get that engine going…LHP Deivi Diaz continued his run of strong pitching, tossing five innings, giving up one run on four hits with nine strikeouts.   In his last 16 IP, he has allowed two runs (both unearned) on 11 hits with three walks and 19 strikeouts.  Scouting report:  I have no idea who he is…RHP Zach Greene tossed a scoreless inning of relief, allowing a hit while striking out one.  The 8th round pick out of South Alabama is someone to pay attention to once he starts earning his way through to the full-season leagues.

Scranton Railriders (65-54) took the night off.

Trenton Thunder (64-54) didn't play either.
