Yankees Minor League Report 8/27/19: Dominant Performances for Mike King, Clarke Schmidt

I do not have time for a full report tonight, so here are some highlights:

Scranton shutout Pawtucket, 4-0, behind a strong performance by Mike King (6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K).   Jonathan Loaisiga (2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K) was strong in relief while Luke Voit went 3-for-5 with a home run.   He is hitting .471 with two doubles and two home runs during his rehab stint.  Syracuse lost tonight, which gives Scranton a little cushion as we head into the home stretch.

Not to be outdone by King, Clarke Schmidt was fantastic for the Trenton Thunder tonight:  7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K.   Schmidt has been on fire and should be an option for the 2020 MLB squad at this rate.   He hasn't allowed a run over 13.2 IP in his last two starts.

Charleston scored 11 runs tonight, with DH Josh Breaux providing a single, double, home run (11), and four runs batted in.  Canaan Smith cranked out his 30th double while stealing his 13th base while the red-hot Josh Stowers went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and his 33rd stolen base.   He is 31-for-85 (.365) in August.   RHP Diego Cordero won in his Charleston debut, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits over five innings.

Staten Island had a rough evening, losing 4-0.   Josh Smith had a pair of walks, but there isn't much else to write about in this game.

Pulaski lost a 13-5 game.  C Saul Torres drove home a pair of runs with a double while DH Ryder Green drove home a run, scored a run, and walked twice.

In the GCL, SS Alexander Vargas went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in, and two runs scored.  DH Antonio Gomez also contributed a double and two runs batted in.
