Yankees Minor League Report 9/6/19: Trenton Sweeps as Luis Severino, Dellin Betances, Thairo Estrada Rehab

Scranton (Lost to Durham, 4-2, to fall behind 2-0 in the series.  Maybe they should have waited until after the playoffs to trade Ryan McBroom!  Yes, I am kidding)

3B Mandy Alvarez1-for-4, 2B (1)
2B Breyvic Valera1-for-4
C Kyle Higashioka:  2-for-4, HR (1), RBI, RS
He is still down here because he is best off playing right now to keep himself sharp in case of an emergency with the big league club.  He'll be back whenever this run comes to an end.
1B Erik Kratz:  0-for-3, BB, RS
LF Gosuke Katoh:  0-for-3, BB, K
DH Wendell Rijo:  0-for-4, 2 K
RF Zack Zehner:  2-for-4, RBI
SS Angel Aguilar:  0-for-3, 2 K
PH Francisco Arcia1-for-1
PR Terrance Gore:  0-for-0
There was talk when he was acquired that he could be in line to play a PR role in the playoffs.  I just don't see that happening – they may as well just go with Tyler Wade, who can play several positions, for that role if they decide they need a pinch-runner.   He won't require 40-man roster maneuvering, either.
CF Billy Burns1-for-4

RHP Mike King (L, 0-1):  5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 2 HR
Four walks and two home runs?  Not the King I know!   He had to grind his way through this start, needing 103 pitches to get those 15 outs.
LHP Rex Brothers:  1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
RHP Brady Lail:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
LHP Danny Coulombe:  1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Trenton (Destroyed Reading, 12-2, to sweep the series and advance to the championship round.  They won't play again until Tuesday.   Bowie currently leads Harrisburg, 2-1, in their series)

CF Rashad Crawford1-for-5, 2B (1), 2 RS, K
2B Thairo Estrada3-for-3, 2B (1), 5 RBI, 2 RS, BB
The real star of "Rehab Night"!
PR/2B Diego Castillo 1-for-1, 2B (1)
Estrada had all that action in only five innings – I assume that was the plan for him tonight.  Castillo earns his first Double-A hit.
LF Ben Ruta2-for-5, 2 RBI
All these multi-hit games are bringing back images of April when nobody could get Ruta out!
1B Chris Gittens1-for-4, RBI, BB
C Kellin Deglan:  1-for-5, K
SS Kyle Holder:  0-for-4, RS, BB
DH Isiah Gilliam2-for-5, RS, 3 K
RF Alexander Palma: 3-for-5, 2 2B (2), RBI, 3 RS, K
Palma is facing a HUGE 2020 season for his future as a prospect.  Games like this help his cause!
3B Max Burt:  2-for-4, RBI, 3 RS

RHP Luis Severino:  3 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, HR
He tossed 50 pitches tonight, which one assumes is exactly the limit he was on!  Trenton advancing to the championship is great news because Severino will be able to continue his rehab in actual game situations.
RHP Matt Wivinis:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Dellin Betances:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HB
Betances was throwing 92-94, according to the Trenton radio broadcast.
RHP Albert Abreu2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
Six up, six down. He was throwing as high as 98.
RHP Brooks Kriske:  1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
He was throwing in the mid-90s.
RHP Daniel Alvarez:  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
